Welcome to the Department of Education and Skills website for the Energy Rating of Schools. In line with new legislation (see EPBD section) all public buildings will require an energy rating certificate to measure energy use and carbon emissions and will be required to display this certificate in a public area.
This website will enable schools to monitor the effectiveness of
their energy efficiency measures by providing instantaneous provisional Display Energy Certificate (DEC)
generation. This rating will then be ratified by SEI and an official certificate will be posted to the school. Use of this self-certification website is the only route an Irish school can use to obtain a valid Display Energy Certificate.
This website calculates the Building Energy Rating of the school in accordance with the national methodology for Public Buildings. The energy use is
measured in kWh/m2 so that smaller schools can be compared to larger schools on a one-to-one basis.
As this is Year 2 of this process please ensure that the fuel bills are measured for the period of
1st September 2008 to 31st August 2009.
A school that inputs their energy usage and building construction information to the website will generate a Display Energy
Certificate that is based on their current energy use and recieve a detailed advice sheet on
further energy saving measures which they can consider implementing in their school. These measures are dependent on the answers provided in the DEC Input section of the website.
This website will
provide each school with an overview of how their energy management procedures compare with a benchmark that is based on schools across the country. This will empower the school
to take further
actions to reduce the energy use in their school and to minimise their carbon
impact.
The conditions which affect the energy use in each school can differ but the advice section of this website is designed to give an indication of potential measures which could be implemented based on the data received.
